Celi, Ari and I departed from Jakarta to Malang to have a holiday. We arrived in Malang Airport, Abdul Rachman Saleh at 3 PM. We saw this city was still in developing progress. There’re a lot of buildings reconstruction and facility improvement in the airport. After taking our baggage, we went out to meet up with a guide from Leisure Time.

We got delicious snack while enjoying Malang City coolness and appetizing snack.

We headed to Malang Museum, Tempo Doeloe. This museum was built around 2012. We were quite impressed by its founder. We passed through the hall like we put into the time machine and travelled the time starting from the prehistoric times until the independence time. Unfortunately, not everyone knows the existence of this museum, even by Malang citizens itself.

After we’re all satisfied visiting Malang Tempo Doeloe, we continued our journey to Oen shop, a restaurant that is nuanced of Netherlands. It appeared from the photographs, paintings, decorations, even lay out and presented food is typically of the Netherlands.

We ordered an ice cream, durian banana boat. The taste is pretty good, maybe it’s because the process of making the ice cream still using the old way. We really like it much. However, Ari could not try the ice cream since he’s not durian lovers.

Our energy has already recharged and we went to the next place. We had short trip downtown. Our guide told us a few things about Malang – history, layout and the grand design which was built by Dutch.

We really enjoyed the city through the historic buildings which made us feel back to the old time. We also saw the night views in the town. There are two squares. One is named Kotak Main Square because its shape is square (kotak) and the other is Bundar Square took from its shape too that is round (bundar). Generally, each city only has one square but Malang has two squares.

We finally understood that the first place we visited was Kotak Main Square. Kotak Main Square is a square that was built by Dutch. The further explanation can be seen here (KOTAK MAIN SQUARE)

We arrived in Bundar Square and we were really amazed by the atmosphere we encountered. As its name Bundar, the shape of the square is round. There’s a garden laid out nicely. This square is often called a monument square (since there’s a monument in the middle of the square) and its location that is very close to the Malang station.

The square is surrounded by hotels, big and shady trees, government offices, and schools. There are a fountain and lightings which were very interesting in Bundar Square. The further explanation about Bundar Square can be seen here (Alun-Alun BUNDAR)

The time showed it’s already 9 PM and we had to back to hotel. The hotel we chose was the favorite one of Dutch guests. It’s really a pleasant hotel!
