Not really a fan of steams? Then diesels could be your alternative. As more and more mills convert to road deliveries, it will be a matter of time before all field line cane trains disappear. We are giving you the opportunity to witness the hardship of Java as we take you round Java’s field line trains with their breath taking views.

KEDAWUNG SUGAR MILL

Located in the East Vicinity of a small town of Pasuruan, East Java, with field lines in deep threatfrom the ongoing construction of the national tollway/motorway, their survivor is anybody’s guess. With the North field line that crosses the state railway already gone, the mill now relies on the West, East and South West field lines, which features a mixture of road side section and rice paddies scenery with the great Bromo Volcano overlooking in the background.

THE SITUBONDO SUGAR MILL

Wringinanom Sugar Mill

Located on the remote area of Situbondo, this mill still offers kilometres of field lines with photogenic scenes ofsmall bridges, chalk mountain background, level crossing with the former state railway line, and a huge bridge that crosses the Sampeyan River, the main river that flows along the small quiet town of Situbondo. To add to their ‘features’, it also has a rail connection to their neighbouring mill, Olean. The line features Japanese locos built by Kyosan Kogyo as well as Hokuriku, as well as German built Diema diesels.

Asembagus Sugar Mill

At the far East of the SItubondo Region, not only this mill has its own line to the nearest harbour, but it also features a line that goes to a cane field located on the coastal line of Java Sea. If you wish, we could arrange a freight train consisting of boxvans to run to the docks or we could ride a regular cane train to the seaside cane fields.

SEMBORO SUGAR MILL

Away from the ever expanding major cities such as Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and even Malang, this mill is most certain able to maintain their field lines for years to come. Besides from the huge rolling stocks of diesels that pick up canes in the cane fields, it also features a regular fireless locos built by O&K which pushes the canes to the gantry in the inside yard. A journey on a field line train could take as long as a day, hauling out long cane trucks early in the morning and could return back to the mill after sunset!

JATIROTO SUGAR MILL

Being the neighbour of Semboro, they maintain their good relationship with each other. Infact, their relationship is so good, that they seldom exchange rolling stocks via their connection railway line. And just like Semboro, since the mill is located in a remote place, the survivor of their field lines is years to come! They have a huge rolling stock of Hokuriku diesels, each can haul as long as 100 cane trucks to pick up canes at far locations!, some of which feature amazing scenes of the Semeru Volcano in the background.

If you would like to have your own custom made narrow gauge railway tour that is not listed in our package (including a mixture of steams and diesels), do let us know by May 2018.

ALL of our rates include :

• Arrangement fees and entry permits.
• ALL transports from and to airport, and throughout the tour.
• ALL Accommodations. Note that one room can accommodate 2 people. If you have special needs, do let us know beforehand.
• Meals for each participants where each participants will get twice meals per day with a value of up to Rp 30,000,- (just under 4 US$) per person per meal. Any meals above the stated price will be at your own cost.Breakfast will be served at the hotel.
• Fees for English and Indonesian spoken guide who has at least 5 years of experience of visiting Java Sugar Mills.

Our rates DO NOT include :

• International and/or domestic flights to and from Surabaya. However, we can offer you assistance in booking international flights with additional costs.
• Fees for souvenirs.
• Tips for the transport and/or locomotive drivers (please prepare a total of Rp 100.000,- in hand for each venue for all participants).
